Its International Women’s Day to day and in the office, we’ve been discussing and debating who inspires us.
The women who inspire me have always been women who do not compromise, who have a mission in whatever field they work in and who leave phenomenal legacies. They are knowledgeable and passionate about their subjects and areas of expertise, and are an inspiration to us all, particularly to young girls who need strong role models. Of course, there are women from all walks of life to whom this description applies but some well-known names who fit the bill for me are Coco Chanel, Audrey Hepburn, and Meryl Streep.
Coco Chanel was way ahead of her time. Working in a man’s world, she was a successful business woman in her own right, a patron of the arts, who changed the status quo of fashion in more ways than one. Outspoken and a true individual, her casual chic still influences style today.
Audrey Hepburn lived through the hardships of the Second World War in her early years but went on to become one of the most admired film stars and iconic faces of the twentieth century. The experiences she had as a child fuelled her desire to be involved in humanitarian work in later life, and she aged with such grace and dignity.
Meryl Streep is a breath of fresh air. Never allowing herself to be typecast, she chooses roles which expand her emotional breadth and acting ability. This redoubtable actress has won three Academy Awards amongst countless others and doesn’t show any signs of stopping.
These women all have inspirational stories and so do the female survivors of war supported by the organisation Women for Women International led by another great female role model, Brita Fernandez Schmidt.
This year, in celebration of International Women’s Day ELEMIS has created a Limited Edition Pro-Collagen Marine Cream Ultra-Rich with Women for Women International. Engraved with the organisation’s tagline ‘She Inspires Me’, a portion of sales will go towards funding a year-long programme for women in Afghanistan.
